Upper Grove,

Croydon

Upper Grove Lodge is a small apartment building on a constrained former scrapyard in South Norwood, London. The proposals introduce three contemporary, energy-efficient apartments, including a mixture of family accommodation and smaller one-bedroom apartments, alongside generous amenity spaces and ancillary facilities.

The scheme sits sensitively within a gap in the streetscape and aims to introduce a sense of joy and openness into the previously foreboding and unloved section of the residential street. The building form takes cues from the surrounding Victorian mansion blocks, introducing an expressed gable, bay windows and a robust masonry palette to ensure that it sits comfortably within the existing streetscape while remaining distinct.
